Bushfires, desert sand and heritage entwine in an evening of music with William Barton and the Australian String Quartet (ASQ).

The ARIA-winning digeridoo player and composer will reunite with the Adelaide-based ASQ for a program inspired by the land and its stories, featuring music composed by Barton himself.

Along with works from Australian composers Peter SculthorpeSarah Hopkins and a world premiere from Natalie Williams, Barton and the ASQ will also perform the score to their seminal collaboration Square Circles Beneath the Red Desert Sand. The work draws on the spirits of Barton’s homeland on Kalkadunga Country (Mt Isa) and seeks out the common resonances between two musical traditions that evolved on opposite sides of the world.

This work will also appear as the soundtrack to Square Circles VR

"I’m doing what I love. I want to take the oldest culture in the world and blend it with Europe’s rich musical legacy. "
