Discover the secrets of the ocean floor where technology and nature drift together
Dive beneath the surface and drift into the unknown with Digital Abyss, an immersive journey by celebrated digital artist Miguel Chevalier. For over 45 years, Miguel has been a pioneer in the field of immersive digital experiences — and here, he invites you to submerge into a virtual underwater meadow of imagined flora, endlessly growing, changing and transforming.
Inspired by the deep ocean — 95% of which remains unexplored — and featuring music by Jacopo Baboni Schilingi, this glowing digital environment unfolds like a living seascape throughout Adelaide's home of Immersive Light and Art ILA, filled with AI plankton projections, robotic drawings, glowing lightworks, and 3D sculptures all reflecting the curious micro wonders of the marine floor. Watch as the curved interactive screens respond to your presence where shadows ripple, forms emerge, and unseen worlds grow from data algorithms derived from the living world.
Poetic, playful, and quietly powerful, Digital Abyss reflects on the fragile beauty of our ecosystems and our place within them. Step inside, slow down, and discover a hypnotic space where technology and nature drift together, asking what it might take for humanity and the natural world to truly coexist.
Situated in the city’s west-end creative precinct, ILA is a unique arts venue where creativity, technology and hospitality blend to deliver breathtaking, innovative and multi-sensory experiences.
You’re welcome to extend your visit to Digital Abyss and relax in the ILA Bar or indulge in award-winning dining at Aurora Restaurant an Illuminate Host for the 2026 Festival!
